Lunch and Hidden Cemeteries

Did you know there is a cemetery buried beneath Chicago’s Lincoln Par? Or that thousands of graves were left in Milwaukee’s Second Ward after the cemetery went into foreclosure and sold at auction? Abandoned cemeteries on the lakeshore are just one of the many hidden histories of the Great Lakes.

Officials in growing cities in the 18th and 19th centuries had to move the dead to make way for the living.  In Chicago, Milwaukee, and Cleveland, work crews were honest.  Some Claimed to move plots they left behind.  Other weren’t carful and didn’t locate all the graves.  Dr. Emilie Le Beau Lucchesi introduces these lost graves,, how they were discovered, and what they tell us about life on the Great Lakes.
