Programs and Activities
The Wayne Township Food Pantry provides weekly food distributions, facilitates information & referrals to low income clients, provides families with Easter food and baskets for children, Thanksgiving meal boxes, and Christmas meal boxes and gifts. Project Backpack provides new backpacks and school supplies for children K-6th grade during our annual “Back to School Mobile Pantry” each year in August. The Food Pantry and General Assistance Office compliment each other by capturing respective clients and guiding them toward specific programs that meet their current needs. Through our partnership, eligible residents of the township may receive financial assistance for rent, utilities, prescriptions, work related expenses, application assistance for public benefits and disability programs. We provide referrals for legal aid, immigration issues, domestic violence and veteran’s services.
We are the only organization in the northwest DuPage county area that offers all of these services under one roof. The uniqueness of our programs, and the extensive training of our staff, allows us to identify a family’s critical need, provide assistance and help them create a strategic plan toward self-sufficiency. We are members of the Community Hunger Network (agency partner), the Illinois Hunger Coalition (board member), the Northern Illinois Food Bank (past board member), Feeding America (agency partner) and Salvation Army (agency partner). We network with federal agencies (Social Security, Homeland Security, etc.), state agencies (Dept. of Human Services, State Attorney’s Office, etc.), county agencies (DuPage County Community Services, Dept. of Public Health, etc.), municipal agencies (police departments, local city government offices, etc.) and local ministries.
