Under the supervision of Highway Commissioner Martin McManamon, the Road District maintains the right-of-way of many streets in the unincorporated areas of Wayne Township which encompasses approximately 43 miles of roadway and includes over 65 streets and 23 cul-de-sacs.
With few exceptions, the right-of-way is roughly 66 to 80 feet wide or 33 to 40 feet from the center of the street to the property line. Within that 66 to 80 feet the Road District assumes many responsibilities:
- Asphalt patching
- Asphalt re-surfacing
- Gravel shouldering
- Inspection of all contract services
- Litter pick-up
- Roadside mowing
- Road striping
- Traffic control signing
- Street signage
- Tree removal
- Winter snow and ice control
The Road District also offers these additional services:
- Brush pick-up
- Spring and Fall Mulch Program
The WTDR is equipped to handle most of these duties and to contract some with private enterprise. We have excellent intergovernmental cooperation with the municipalities in and around township boundaries. Manpower and equipment are often exchanged to make all of us more efficient.
Please note that PERMITS are required for all work within the right-of-way and for some projects on private property.
