Founded in 1850, Wayne Township is a 36 square-mile area located in the northwest corner of DuPage County, which contains portions of Bartlett, Carol Stream, Hanover Park, Wayne, West Chicago, St. Charles, as well as a large unincorporated area. (See the map).
By law, Illinois townships are charged with three basic functions:
In addition, the Senior Center provides seminars on many topics and a host of social activities to help township seniors maintain an active and productive lifestyle.
WAYS (Wayne/Winfield Area Youth/Family Services), housed in the Wayne Township office, is funded jointly by Wayne and Winfield townships.
Wayne Township cooperates extensively with the DuPage County Sheriff's office and pays for the services of an additional deputy assigned specifically to the township.
Overseeing the general operation of the township is the township Supervisor, one of eight elected officials.
The Clerk is responsible for maintaining township records and coordinating matters of voter registration and elections with the county.
