Notes from our Supervisor…

Each issue of the township Newsletter, plus the Senior Center bi-monthly newsletter contain a note from Wayne Township Supervisor Tom Arends.

From the June/July 2009 Senior Center newsletter:

The amount of time and money the seniors have donated in support of our general assistance program has been impressive and inspirational. As a life long volunteer, it is easy to recognize the true spirit of volunteerism demonstrated by our Seniors. Please keep up the good work!

As a member of the Seniors, I am very impressed at how well the programs are run. It is obvious that the high level of participation in our Seniors program is due to the fact that they are very well run. Since the election I have walked through the senior center in an effort to understand all of the programs and to try and meet all of you. I will continue do so and if you see me, please introduce yourselves. Together, we will keep our programs strong and popular.

Tom Arends, Supervisor

From the Spring 2009 Wayne Township newsletter:
Note: Tom Arends was elected supervisor in the April elections and assumed his duties May 18. This note was written before the election by his predecessor, Bill Newell.

On January 21, tragedy was avoided at Wayne Township’s food pantry by the grace of God. On that Wednesday, we had over 50 families receiving food for their families. At approximately 1:00 pm, a food pantry recipient lost control of her car, slamming into the food pantry and the office area of the food pantry. This event caused structural damage forcing the closure of the food pantry for at least the month of February. Fortunately, there were no injuries to people entering or leaving the building on one of the busiest days of the week at the Township. For more information, please call WAYS at 630-231- 7166. Also, please give this number to anyone needing services.

At this time, we are busy gathering information for our insurance company in order to begin the reconstruction of the food pantry. Meanwhile, families are temporarily being served at other facilities (see General Assistance article on page 3 of the Spring 2009 Newsletter).

Secondly, every year Townships across the state of Illinois hold their annual town meeting on the second Tuesday in April. We are no different and invite you to attend this very important meeting on April 14, 2009, at 7:00pm. This meeting will be held in the Senior Center at the Township office located at 27W031 North Avenue in West Chicago. We encourage your a endance that evening to meet your Township Officials and to ask any questions you might have regarding Township government.
